Hey, Andrea...'scuse me for butting in here...

Nobody should have to play in pain. Do you really know what the cause of the pain is?
You should be able to play with emotion without your arms getting tense. (Besides, all pieces have emotion!)
I would also think you should be able to work hard and handle stressful cello-related situations
without it hurting your wrist.
I know there are some books out there about how to play with no pain.. and if you have formed
technique habits that lead to pain, playing the same way slower or for shorter periods of time
isn't going to help you at all in the long run. It's possible you might even need to stop
completely and let your wrist heal before you worry about what's causing the pain.
If you posted a message about what's causing the pain, maybe some of the people around here
with expertise in that area could help you out.
