"Othmar" Sonata for Solo Cello by Maria Newman
It was an honor to premiere this work by Maria Newman for the World Cello Congress III! There were so many wonderful performers and new works during the WCC.
I had hoped that Maria could come herself to the conference as she is a vivacious and intriguing individual. Despite recently having her third child and working in the studios, Maria has been extremely busy with many commissions for new works. Most everyone has heard Maria as concertmistress of the "Jurassic Park" orchestra and the solo fiddling 'grasshopper' in "James and the Giant Peach".
I am planning tto record the work this summer and hope that other cellists consider performing and possibily premiering this work in different parts of the world!
