Rhythm
method
I knew that would get your
attention! I figured out a method that helps me get the pulse of a
piece better than just listening to the metronome. I plugged my
headphones into the metronome jack and (since it is monophonic) put
the sound on the left ear. (It doesn't work on the right-- I'm
assuming some kind of right brain effect although both ears do
connect to both sides of the brain, unlike eyes.) It makes a huge
difference in my ability to feel the pulse of the music while I
play. I don't know yet if it will carry over when I turn the
metronome off, but I think it probably will help a lot.

Re:

Something even simpler: with the
metronome on, count out loud as you play. You'll perceive quickly
enough if your counting is steady.

Re:

I can't do that unless it is
extremely simple. Another left-right brain thing, I think.
