Sumo wrestling makes for good cello practicing.
The bouts are generally quite brief and there are several minutes of ritual between bouts during which I can be distracted back to the cello. Also, since the announcing is in Japanese there's no need for the sound at any level (for me!)

I can't watch it. I keep thinking I look just like them. (Better cut back on the KK's.)

David, it would take three of you to make one Phillip Myers (principal horn, NY Phil). What on earth do they do when the orchestra has to go on tour? What plane/bus seat could possibly hold him?

We had the same problem with Frank Miller. He always needed a seat belt extention, but boy, could he play the cello.

It would still take two Millers to make one Myers.

Phil Meyers
I remember reading a nick name for him on a juilliar Men's Room wall. It was funny but I think if he ever read this board it would seem kind of mean to post what it said.

But it refers to you point about Mr. Meyers, OyOy.

Famous sumo fans?
I read somewhere that Mischa Maisky is absolutely addicted to sumo wrestling.

avoid watching 3-Day Eventing!!
When I whatch that I seem to ride over every jump, and suffer consequent palpatations - not conducive to good scales. Indeed any sport with an element of suspense (golf, tiddlywinks) is inconducive.

I certainly won't be able to watch our valiant team:
Blyth Tait, Vaughn Jeffris, Andrew Nicholson, Mark Todd et al. battling it out in Seedny Maybe dressage would be better? ;)
