cello
stand
Any comments on cello stands? Right
now our cello lives under the grand piano on its side, which is
okay, but kind of a hassle to get it in and out. (We have a
Mooradian backpack-style soft case, only used to and from lessons.)
I've seen little folding things, but we have young children -- they
know the value of stringed instruments, being violinists themselves,
but are still sometimes careless. Shar has a sort of box stand for
$300 CAN ($200 US) and a store in Toronto I can drive to; that seems
like a lot of money for a simple box, but it's our cello we're
talking about. It can go in the corner next to the cabinet in which
live all the violins and the viola. Mail-ordering across the border
is a nuisance and I'd prefer to avoid it. Thanks. --PR

Re:

I just bought a large hard case that
stands up by itself and holds the cello in if you open the case
while it's standing...protects it completely, but it's ready to play
RIGHT NOW. So far it seems to be just the thing.

Re:

I built a cello stand similar to the
one Shar sells. (Actually, my father and brother in law built it and
the plans came from someone on this board so I can't take that much
credit.) It was pretty simple for them to do, though, and I think I
still have the plans on the computer if you are interested.
