Frederick Stock Cello Concerto
To all cello-chatters in the Chicago
area, one last post of shameless self-promotion:
Sunday,
October 22, 2000 3 PM Business and Social Science Center Theater,
(J143) at Harper College, 1200 W. Algonquin Road. Palatine, Illinois
(Box Office 847-925-6100 $10 for adults, $5 for students and
seniors, children under 13 FREE)
The first performance
ANYWHERE since 1940 of the Frederick Stock Cello Concerto will be
given by Gary Stucka and the Harper Symphony Orchestra conducted by
Frank Winkler. Also on the program, Stock's orchestration (complete
with sleigh bells!!) of the Schubert C Major Cello Quintet. Please
come and enjoy!

Out of curiosity, where does Stock
employ sleigh bells in the Schubert? I've gotta know.

Dear Mr. Stucka--My regrets for not
being able to witness this performance, but break a leg. We look
forward to hearing how it goes.
Where can I get the Schubert
cello quintet? May I ask who the publisher is? Our quintet is
looking for new repertoire and this sounds right up our alley. I am
especially drawn to anything with sleigh bells. In Los Angeles, we
can only "hear" winter!

with all of us Gary Stucka groupies!

Gary,
Here's to a wonderful
performance of the Stock Concerto. It is a special thrill to play
something that has been unjustly neglected for so many years. May it
go as well as you picture in your fondest dreams! I, along with the
rest of your friends/fans here on the board, look forward to hearing
all about the performance. I would also love to be there, but
Chicago is a bit far for a Sunday drive from Salt Lake City.

I did have a conflict for that date,
but it canceled. Hmmm.... I saw the flyer, did indeed find you
sheveled, and it is a concert that I would enjoy attending. We shall
see.

As a former member of the HSO (we
moved 4 hours away 2-1/2 yrs ago), I have to admit I'm turning green
(with envy) over here in the boonies. It was a great group and Frank
is a fantastic conductor. I had a wonderful time in that orchestra.
Tell Tony, Cass and all the other cellos hi for me. I know it will
be a great performance.
