Do you
know what's on your record shelves?
A while back I asked about Debussy
Sonata recordings because I was working on the piece and wanted to
hear something different from the old Garbousova recording I'd been
listening to and someone suggested the Rostroprovich, but before I
had a chance to buy it I found it - I had it already. I forgot it
had been given to me and the cats had knocked it down behind the
shelf of CDs and I found it when something else got knocked down
there and I went to pick it up. Anyhow, yesterday I was looking for
something else in my collection of LPs and found a recording of
Jules Eskin playing the Debussy - another recording I didn't realize
I had. Makes me wonder what else is lurking in my shelves.

Wow, looks like you've got some
treasures there! Another good recording of the Debussy I have is
with Jeffery Sollow. I really like Eskins' playing and have him
doing some chamber music (Brahms Viola Quintets) with members of the
BSO.
I'm not sure if it was reissued but there was a
terrifici recording on CBS Masterworks of the Brahms 2nd piano
Concerto w/ Leon Fleischer. Eskin played the cello solo in the slow
movement and both he and Fleisher's playing were heavenly!
As
for you cat knocking over the cd behind the shelves. I think it's
more likely that Mr. Fluffy (or whatever your furry friend's name
is) has good taste in music and borrowed your CD(s) to listen to.
But rather than getting cuaght taking your CD w/o permission he used
the "I'llmake it look like it fell behind the cabinet all this time"
trick. Works every time!

Re: Do

No.
I have gone out and
purchased study disks only to find out the very thing is on a
collection I already own. That is what started my desire to catalog.
My problem now is what I refer to as the "Ernie & Bert"
syndrome. If you ever watched the kid's show, you know that Ernie
was always putting milk in the fish bowl, fish in the sugar bowl,
sugar in the.... So it goes with my disks. I listen to a recording
in the car, and when I go to change disks, the proper case is
missing or not within reach. It ends up resting safely in the wrong
case. Gee, I guess you guys will be a tad reluctant to loan me
things in the future, huh?
I just find that "Entropy Rules."
Bobbie, you are probably the only one who will find that
funny.

Re: Do

Wow -- I'm almost afraid to look!
Well,
besides dust ... There's record shelves, record boxes, record
crates, CD shelves, CDs here, there and everywhere (because there's
not enough CD shelves) and a few tapes. And just this past week a
neighbor who's moving back to Germany gave me about 15 boxed sets of
classical music from some series she collected years back. Haven't
even had a chance to look at them yet. I think I won them because I
still own a working turntable!
I really should cruise back in
time and take inventory with my new (cello) musical direction in
mind.
Uh -- thanks for adding another project to my 7.3 meter
long "Do List!"
Dave, who at least once has purchased a second copy of a
recording, forgetting he already owned it!

I think it is funny, too, but I do
the same exact thing. In fact, I was just complaining yesterday that
I can't find my Marcello sonatas because the case is empty and I
haven't figured out what case they are really in!
