Only in
NYC
Finished a splotchy, ersatz
performance of Tosca at Di Capo and minding my own business, waiting
for a bus on 79th and 3rd Ave...well-dressed mid-30s guy walks by
me, stops and says "Oh, I see you're a cellist" Not really in the
mood for conversation. "Yeah". "Who's your favorite
cellist?" "Rostropovich". "Not Feuermann?!" "Well, he's
also at the top of my list". "He was my grandfather" Chatted
briefly before he strolled off. Said his name was Tino or Gino Cruz,
asked for my card, where I played,.
OK, BA or any other of
youse experts, was he for real??!!

Re:

Feuermann had one daughter, Monica.
She died of breast cancer a few years back. Monica married a man
named Hughes, and had two children, a daughter Marika, who is a
cellist in the Bay area and a son whose name I don't remember, who
at last I knew was also living in the Bay area.
If this man
was indeed Feuermann's grandson than his last name should be Hughes,
and also he is half-black. And he would be in his mid to late
twenties.
Hope that helps.

Re:

It sounds like it was either a)
he
or
b) another poor deluded soul, like the ones I
have previously mentioned to you, who reside (between 9am and 9pm)
in Wellington Public Library....the ones who have been to the 'other
side'.
or c) maybe it was the son of the son?
Well,
I'm off to read Bertolt Brecht in the bath. It is the best place for
it - I can pretend that I am on the moon.
(now who is the
poor deluded soul?)

Thanks, B, sounds like we have a
match....I thought he said Cruz, but it could easily have been
Hughes. He was light-skinned, I thought Latino-looking. Will
investigate....it was just too funny circumstantially.
