Insurance
Just curious about how my fellow
CBN-ers insure their instruments. Do you all have riders on your
house insurance, or did you buy "real" musical instrument insurance,
like from Clarion? Just wondering what the concensus is on this for
us amateurs.

Re:
Insurance
This gets revisited now and again
but I can't remember any consensus. Our instruments are under a
special rider with State Farm. They are covered wherever they go,
whatever they do, for replacement value. And I have to tell you,
they came through with flying colors when we needed them. Stef
bashed her cello at rehearsal and the repair was nearly the cost of
the cello.
I did talk to Clarion, and the agent was quite
explicit about the value of the cellos they insure, and mine was not
one that they dealt with. It is less than a $10,000 instrument. But
it seems to me others with instruments like mine ARE insured with
them. Maybe it was the agent I got that day.

On
Renter's Policy
I have been able to insure my
instruments on my condo owner's and renter's policies (State Farm)
for no extra cost, and without a special rider. They did ask if I
used the instruments professionally. I do a few gigs a year and make
a few hundred dollars - they said that would be OK. If it were more,
I would have to make other
arrangements.
