Barber
sonata
Does anybody have a good recording
of this? I just started playing it and I haven't been able to find a
recording of it.

There's a good recording with Lorne
Munroe - it's in the New York Legends series.

There's a recording of Kirschbaum
that also has the Barber Concerto on it

I have one called 20th century
masterpieces on the Klavier label. Roger Drinkall is the cellist. It
also has the Debussy Sonata, Vaughan Williams Studies in English
Folksongs, and the Ginastera Pampeana #2 on it. I highly recommend
it.

re:

There is an old, but fine recording
made by Piatigorsky in the 1950s on RCA label, coupled with
Hindemith sonata. If I recall correctly, it was a very fine
performance. It has been out-of-print for some time, but it
sometimes pops up on used-LP store catalogues. Something to look out
for.

It's great to see you plugging older
recordings. I'd forgotten about Piatigorsky's Barber. Even so, I
probably wouldn't have mentioned it because it is so long
gone!! Anyway, I'm sure BA, Bob, and I will feel less "lonely"
around here with your assistance in helping people not to forget
cellists of the past.
I'm most curious about your
collection. If you feel like coresponding privately, my e-mail
address is: slidemaster1@aol.com
