Sweaty
hands and fingers
My hands are usually extremely
moist, moreso than normal to the point where I should probably tell
a Dr. But anyway, is there anything one would suggest I do about
protecting my cello? My fingerboard is now extensively spotted with
light brown gunk, but some of it looks like it's the actually
fingerboard lightening up, I can't really tell. I just know my
fingerboard looks pretty gross. Should I go about cleaning off the
sludge myself? How, and with what product? Also the luthier told me
the neck of my cello feels very dry, from all the sweat from my hand
of course. Is there anything I can do to keep it from drying out and
cracking? Thanks in advance

drippy,
drippy, drippy
I've had the same problem since I
was a child. I even warped the fingerboard on my last cello. The
sweat would just run down the fingerboard and end up as a puddle at
my feet. What I do now is wipe off the fingerboard during practice,
and if my fingers are especially wet, I use baby cornstarch on my
hands to absorb some of the liquid. Don't use deodorant or something
like that, it makes your fingers sticky. Good
luck.
