Cello
in the shower?
In an effort to reduce my sky-high
heating bills (electric heat in the northeast---UGHHH!), I'm trying
an experiment. The only room I'm heating now is my bathroom, and I'm
keeping my cello, when not in use, in the shower stall. In her case,
all tightly latched up, of course. I turn on the heat in the living
room only when I'm about to practice.
Does anyone foresee
any problems with this set up? I don't know if being in the shower
stall would be a problem. Can an instrument get too much moisture?
Any input greatly appreciated. TIA -

hope no
turns on the show w/o looking in there
Some sleepy morning you're going to
wander in, reach behind that show curtain, turn on the shower and
scream!!!
just a thought.

Yeah, that crossed my mind. So far
(just 2 days into this expriment) no problems. I may hang a little
cello picture right beside the showere as a reminder.

I don't think the shower stall would
be any better or worse than any other part of the bathroom. What I
would be concerned about is the sudden blasts of humidity when you
take a shower or bath, of course assuming that you've removed the
cello from the stall. You might want to get a cheap hygrometer from
radio shack or wherever, and see what your humidity level is like
under your various circumstances. Too much humidity can be a
problem!

If it's in the case, I'd think it
would be sheltered from ANY sudden blasts, wouldn't you? (well - not
sure it's waterproof, though. ) I
agree - another part of the bathroom might be better - unless, of
course, there literally is no other space for it in there. Not sure
what your layout is, of course.

Bathroom update!
I put my
hygrometer thingy in there the other day to see what's happening.
Naturally, it spikes just after the shower - up to about 75%. But if
I leave the door open, it's back down to 60 within ten minutes. Does
anybody think that brief fluctuation would be dangerous? What does
too much humidity do?
And the inevitable happened just this
morning. Maybe it's because it's my birthday . . . my mind was on
other things. (Laura - is it YOUR B-day too?) But I turned the
shower on before removing Emma. I realized instantly what I'd done
(sounded different) and got her out. My Weber case definitely is NOT
waterproof!
