Re:
strings
Hi Bryan,
You might get more
response to this question on the Instrument and Equipment board, but
I'll give it a shot here. I think I read your comment about
preventing smooth movement differently than Dorie did, not sure
which of us is getting your meaning. If Dorie understood you right
this won't help, but just in case...
I thought you meant your
winding is separating at the bridge, preventing smooth movement of
the string over the bridge, in which case I would recommend having
parchment put over the groove under the A string, or at the very
least lubricating the groove with graphite from a pencil.
If
this is where the winding is separating it could be that the groove
in the bridge is too narrow for the string - worn from your previous
strings which may have been slightly narrower than the Thomastik?
I've heard of this happening at the nut (at the scroll end of the
fingerboard), causing even new strings to break.
Anyone else
out there play with Thomastik Dominants? How long do your A strings
last?
Best wishes Bryan, Barb
