beginner search
Hi complete beginner here, in fact still in book 1 of all for strings.
Can someone recommend an easy to play melody hopefully key of c/d/g
that sounds great? The reason i ask is it would be so inspiring to my practice level.
Would love Irish, country, pop, classical, hauntingly beautiful hehe.
Thanks
John

play hymns
For easy tunes, you can't beat hymns. Of course, you will need to change the treble clef tune line to bass clef, I suppose. Better yet, just learn to read treble clef, and play an octave lower than written.

That confuses me!!
Trying to read treble clef but play in bass just confuses me to no end. I know both clefs fluently (I suppose would be a good word) from playing piano for 11 years, but it still gets confusing. I don't know why. :)

Re: beginner search
I agree with Aaron.. while playing hymns is nice, trying to play down an octave when you are a beginner isn't. I do have some suggestions, though.

Krane, "Bach for the Cello". Can all be played in 1st position

Mel Bay "Fun with the Cello" Folk songs, also all playable in 1st position

There is also a little collection called "Easy Hymns" but I don't remember the publisher.

There are some Disney movie books but the music tends to be deceptively difficult because it is hard to count (for a beginner.)

Re: beginner search
I have a copy of the book "Bach for the Cello, Ten easy pieces in first position" I think it's the same book you mentioned, Bobbie. I got it from Janet Scott (JanJan here at the ICS.) I've skimmed through it every now and then when I get bored with my other pieces. But, I think I've "out-grown" it, so to speak. :) I could possibly pass it down to you, kind of like an heirloom! :) E-mail me if you're interested: CelloPianist@cs.com

re: beginner search
You could play the tenor and bass parts of hymns. They're in the bass cleff, and many of them are beautiful on their own.

I used to sing alto in a choir, and so many people disregard the beautify of the supporting parts. It also teaches you think of music in a new way, which when playing in an orchestra, you'll need to do, as you play the cello.
