a
question about audition repertoire
hi! i am going to be auditioning for
interlochen (the camp) and need opinions on what kind of pieces i
should play. the division i am in does not have set audition pieces,
so i am not sure what to play. bach suites, perhaps? or suzuki
pieces (specifically danse rustique and/or arioso)? also, out of
curiosity, is anyone else here going to go, or planning to audition?
thanks in advance!

Re: a
question about audition repertoire
Sorry to jump in, as I don't know
which pieces to audition with, but I had a similar
question.
I'm thinking of going auditioning in September for
any youth orchestra's in Toronto I can find in the hopes that I can
get into one. For those of you who have played in these sorts of
things before, what are they looking for? When I went to camp last
summer, my audition was a bit of a disaster... I played a simple
piece I hadn't practiced in over six months in stead of the harder
pieces I was working on.
Anyway, I think I might be at about
the same level, being able to play some of the easier bits of the
bach suites.

hmmm....
ok, well, I'm not sure how much I'm
going to be able to help but I can offer a little bit of info. I
recently tried out for All-State orchestra here in Missouri and the
required piece was Sonata in G major by Sammartini. I will say this
piece is rather hard, but I don't know your playing level. It's in
Tenor cleff for most of the piece and goes up into thumb positions.
If you aren't quite at that playing level yet, you might consider
one of the bach suites. They are widely used but for good reason. I
hope this helps a little bit.

Did you make it into All-State? I
was in All-State choir here in Oklahoma. In Oklahoma, there are two
rounds of auditions before you know who actually made it, and then
for choir there is another audition the first day of clinics, just
to make sure you know the music. (if you don't, you are replaced by
an alternate. I did fine though) Had a wonderful time. The clinics
were this past week. How do they do it in
Missouri?

Well, I unfortunetly didn't get in.
But I think I was closer than I was last year, so hopefully I will
get in next year. The try-outs were several excerpts and a required
solo and a solo of choice. We have some really talented musicians in
Missouri. A couple of my friends got in. Well, they had their
performance yesterday. I don't know how they did but I'm sure they
did wonderful. They got to miss school, the lucky things. So you're
in choir too? I went to Oklahoma City for SWACDA last year, I guess
it was. It was lots of fun.

ah! I actually know what SWACDA
stands for! This is my
first year to be in choir at school, so I didn't even know about the
summer conventions and stuff. I live right outside OKC, in Mustang,
if you've heard of it. Was it at OCU? (sorry, I'm asking lots of
questions today. Guess it's just a day for curiosity. )
Our
All-State concerts were all yesterday, too. I can't wait to get a CD
of our performance, We were AWESOME!!!

Re:

well....this was last....march or
april or something, but we stayed in a hotel...oh dang it what was
the name? I can't remember but it was connected through and
undergroud tunnel to a building where we rehearsed. Then we had our
performance in a church around their somewhere, again, I don't know
the name. It was loads of fun. This year is Nationals and I
unfortunetly missed my chance to try out but next year I hope to try
out for the regionals again. I don't know where it will be next
year.
Congrats on all state, I'm sure yall did great!
