music
comp software
I compose a little bit here and
there. I mostly transpose or transcribe things. I do it all by hand.
As time goes on I write more complicated things and it becomes a
pain to write it by hand and play each part by piano to fit with
each other. Anyone have suggestions of good software for this type
of stuff? I have an iMac comp. How much would a good program cost?
Anyone's help would be much appreciated! Thanks

Re:

If you're looking for musical
notation softwares, there are many of them out there, like Encore,
Sibelius, Finale, Voyetra and certainly others that are cheaper than
these. All of them can play what you write pretty well, but I think
they're best just for writing. For playing there is the family of
MIDI sequencer softwares, like Cakewalk, Digital Orchestrator, and
so on. I'm not sure about the prices.
Best

Re:

I recently bought Sibelius software
and so far, it has been able to accommodate all my needs in music
writing. For instance, the work I am producing now is so far 145
pages long and if I had been using my old cheaper program, it would
have crashed. The full price of Sibelius (Australian) is
approximately $1425 but if you are a student or a teacher, you can
get a discout of about $500. This is the dearest on the market (I
think). I have heard that Finale is harder to use than Sibelius so
if you have the chance, buy or at least try Sibelius out as it's
very simple, quick (substituting mouse use for keyboard shortcuts)
and efficient.

There are some less expensive, less
high-powered Mac programs available. I have Songworks, from Ars
Nova, and also Music Time. Both have nice features and I think they
are both under $100.

a demo. Sorry I don't have the URL's but if you have trouble finding
them email me and I'll locate them.
