Which
edition of Breval?
Shar's catalog has two editions of
the Breval C major sonata listed--one edited by Stutschewsky, one by
Schroeder/Rose. Any
recommendations?
Thanks,
Dan

Well, my teacher gave me the
Schroeder/Rose.

I've not seen the other.

Abosolutely the Rose edition. The
one in Suzuki book 4 is good, also. We don't have a starbucks, but
our local equivalent won't let me out the door for less than 4
bucks...it's a grande thing.

But if you use Rose editions, be
open-minded to changing the fingerings. He does some bizarre
things... -eva

Hmmm... Not to me, but then I
studied with a student of Rose. I always thought his markings just
made good sense. Is that not the case?

I hesitate now.... Uh, not to me.
I find some of his ideas to be strange in the extreme. However, I
will escape gracefully ;-) by saying that regardless of the editor,
one should always consider alternate ways of fingering and
phrasing. Even if you ultimately go with exactly what is written,
it will be a considered decision rather than blind
obediance.
How's that? ;-) -eva

Absolutely! So you think his
fingerings are odd. I'm going to keep that in mind when I look at a
Rose edition. Maybe I'll learn something. A new perspective always
helps.
