Modern solo cello compositions by women composers
Does anyone know of any good solo cello works written by women composers? I am loking for something short or multi-movement, substantive, and on the technical level of the Hindemith solo sonata or the Kodaly.

Re: Modern solo cello compositions by women composers
I know there is a fairly recent cd out of 20th century pieces for cello (and probably piano) by British women. I have no idea of the actual title or label tho I'm afraid! Sofia Gubaidulina wrote some very challenging (and very modern) preludes for solo cello. Can't think of anything else off hand I'm afraid. Good luck.

Lee.

You might want to check out www.hildegard.com. They specialize in music by women composers.

My mom wrote a nice piece that might fill the bill - check out the mp3 on the link below. I can get the music sent to you if you want.

I have an unpublished piece by Libby Larsen called "Scudding" which is mezza-mezza. There are also a couple of solo works by Augusta Read Thomas which are in print. Best bet is to look up solo cello CD's...there are so many out there, a lot of indie labels who may record marginally-known composers. Check out the Composers' Recordings Inc. (CRI)website, which has a separate listing, I believe....something like http://www.composersrecordings.com,/ if not try a Google search.
