Music from the
Movies
That's the theme for this year's chamber music concert put on by
our local music teachers association. We'd like to stay away from
"non-classical" music. What can anyone suggest?
Ryan will no
doubt mention the Korngold concerto from Deception. Probably not by
me in this lifetime!
I guess there's always Humoresque from
the movie Humoresque...

Wagner
You will hear a lot of Wagner in "Excalibur" and in "Apocalypse
Now."

Check out the
Naxos Catalouge!
In the end of the Naxos Catalouge there's a listing of lot of
classical music in films!
it is available in pdf format at: www.naxos.com/pdf/pp158-183_2001.pdf
Hope
you find it helpful, Daniel

Just don't play Bolero!
Ryan, who loves Korngold!

You could always
use Vivaldi's 4 Seasons
The movie "The Four Seasons" used this of course. I'm sure that
this is dating me age wise.

Re: Music from

One of my favorite pieces is "The Heart Asks for Pleasure First"
from the Piano. I've got a recording of the Ahn Trio playing this
piece composed by Michael Nyman. Good stuff!

Re: Music from

There is a Foreign Film entitled "A Life Unexamined" that will
feature the first movement of the Chopin Cello and Piano Sonata. The
film is nearing it's final release stages.
I'll let you all
know as more information becomes available.

Re: Check out
the Naxos Catalouge!
Daniel,
That's a jackpot! Looks like I pretty much have my
choice of movements from a Bach Suite. Perhaps that will make up for
having to perform Eine Kleine Nachtmusik. There are also several
tasty tidbits for my piano trio - Schubert, Ravel, Beethoven. And
then there's the Habanera from Carmen or Barcarole from Tales of
Hoffmann.
Thanks again. Your tip was a great help.

The Incredible
Lightness of Being
This is a great movie starring Daniel Day Lewis and takes place in
Prague just before the 1968 Russian invasion. A lot of Janacek cello
and piano music is played (I forget the name of the piece, and I
played it, too!) If you can rent it, great!

Not a chamber
piece, but....
I was wondering the other day how many movies and/or commercials
"Also Sprach Z-------" has been in? (I can never remember the last
word. Only that it begins with Z)

little
correction to movie title
Don't mean to be a pain in the butt, but the title is The
Unbearable Lightness of Being, not 'Incredible.' I just thought I
should write in case someone was looking for it under the I's and
couldn't find it. Juliette Binoche and Lena Olin are gorgeous in it
too. It's an amazing book by Milan Kundera. Read it before you watch
it. --Claudine
