Beginner Method Books
I've been asked to teach cello to an adult beginner. I'm a fine player and musician -- no problem there. But I have no idea what sort of method book(s) I should recommend for my pupil. With the imminent demise of the local sheet music store, searching through bins is getting a bit difficult. Can anybody recommend a good method series for beginners?

Thanks!

Teaching adult beginners
I have had the opportunity to teach adult beginners, and usually I've found it to be a very rewarding experience.

I personally start out with the series

Re: Teaching adult beginners
I am 29 and am looking for a teacher. Never touched a cello before but always wanted to. What should I look for in a teacher and how do I find one that is willing to teach an adult? what should I expected to pay? Money is not really an issue though just curious. I am in the Chicago area.

I'm on the receiving side of the lessons. I'm 53 and have been at it a little over a year, I think. I have been impressed with Janice Rhoda's books ("ABC's of Cello" [something like that] also violin and viola). I think she was originally a Suzuki teacher and built from that base.

Re: Beginner Method Books
I am an adult who has been learning the cello for just under two years. I have really enjoyed learning using the book: "The Art of Cello Playing" by Louis Potter, Jr. It is logical in its format, it goes through a sequence where you try to gain additional skills as you go along. It helps to stir things up a little with a couple of fun books of easy pieces to play, too. The Samuel Applebaum series of books "Beautiful Music For Two String Instruments" has been helpful as well. Hope this helps.

fruit
Does anybody know which book uses fruits and pies and stuff to get rhythms? Im helping out one of my teacher's students and they have a book that uses huckleberry for sixteenths and apple for eighths, that kind of thing. I'm trying to figure out the name of the book for some of my other students. Thanks in advance.

Karen :)
