Cello on
Amtrak?
Does anyone have any experience traveling with your cello by train
on Amtrak?
My cello and I MUST travel roundtrip from Denver
to Michigan in November. I am very skeptical of checking my cello on
an airplane, and I can't afford to buy a second seat for it. I'm
willing to spend almost 24 hours one-way on a train if there is a
safe and inexpensive way to take my cello with me.
Any
thoughts?
Thanks! Becca in Boulder, CO

I've done it a couple of times, and it was a never a problem at
all. My bam case fits in the overhead storage space, so i just put
it up there. if your case doesn't fit, you can either put it in the
seat next to you, or stash it in the baggage area in the front of
the car.

Re: re
I'll second George's response. I've taken my cello on Amtrak from
Chicago to Detroit several times and have not had a problem. It was
only $8 for an upgrade from coach to business class and the business
class car had a large luggage storage area that had plenty of room
for a cello. It's probably more than eight bucks traveling from
Denver to Michigan, but cellos fit in the overhead compartment with
room to spare.
