Recording cello...
Hi all.

I'm trying to record myself for posterity and for friends, and I've been shopping around for a microphone or pickup. Are there any recommendations on a good recording setup? I've experimented with a microphone I had kicking around, but the quality was just terrible. The A string sounded so tinny. At the moment I have it so that the mic is sitting on a table a few feet away from the cello, and it's plugged into my computer, which uses Sound Forge software.

Any ideas?

Eric

There's 2 really good condenser mics for cello. Starker uses them on his recordings of short pieces by David Popper:

Sennheiser MKH20 (omni-directional)
Neumann KM184 (directional)
