Inherited old
old Cello - Seeking Information
I have just inherited an old Cello. I don't know much about it
except that it is over a 100 years old. Considering it's approx.
age, I think it's in pretty good condition. But what to I know!
There is a sticker inside that you can mostly read and there is a
number written that says (in type lettering) 16 and next to it (in
hand writting) 12 or 72. Could that be the year or the number order
it was made? I could really use some help with finding some
referances so I know what to do with it. If it's worth something,
then I will put it in a glass case to preserve it, but if it is
fixable and playable I would like to learn. (I know it needs a
bridge and maybe a few other things) I just don't know where to
start. Please Help! Biizare

Re: Inherited

If there is a reputable violin dealer near you (you don't say where
you're located), take the cello there and ask for an opinion. Your
cello may indeed be a valuable old instrument, but fake labels are
very common, and the age of the cello may not be as great as it
looks.

Yeah, what Ernie said...
Are you certain of the age? How did
it come into your hands? Is there a makers name inside?
If it
is "worth something" DON'T put it in a glass case, PLAY IT!
