My
orchestra
I play cello in the Chattanooga Symphony (and I am the webmaster
for our site, too). The url is here:
www.chattanoogasymphony.org/
Those
of you who play in orchestras, what is the url for your site? Or in
which orchestra do you play? I think it would be fun to share this
info.
Best to all,

I will say
"hi"
We did our final concert for the season last week, but I may see
her at POPS around July 4 (we always play the 1812 Overture then, I
don't know why, I guess people like canons.)

Re: My

My orchestra's web site is www.savannahsymphony.org. It's not a
very good web site - usually leaves off more than half our concerts.
Musicians are in the planning stage of setting up our own web site
(thinking of calling it pissedmusicians.org, but will probably come
up with something else). If anyone out there has any idea of a good
place (cheap) to host one, please let me know.

And Chattanooga's MD is coming to guest conduct us next week in
Mahler 4! He's always a lot of fun whenever he comes here.

Always my
favorite
I think the Chicago Symphony has always been my favorite, ever
since I got an lp of your recording of the Hovhaness Magic Mountain,
back in the '60s.
I'm also partial to the old Abravnel Utah
recordings from way back. The miking of the strings was great in
those recordings.

Utah Symphony, which is reached at utahsymphony.org. And thank for
the plug for the Abravanel years. I was too late for the Mahler
cycle, but did the Brahms and Sibelius ones, among others. One of
the unfortunate things of our leadership of the past 20 years
(pre-Keith Lockhart) is the fact that people remember us primarily
for what we did under Abravanel, with the 100+ recordings he did in
the Salt Lake Tabernacle (home of the Mormon Tabernacle Choir).
Vangard in particular learned how to deal with the somewhat strange
acoustics of that venue.

Re: My

I was holding off with this post thinking that Ryan would do the
honors, but lest it get forgotten.....
Ryan Selberg is the
principal cellist of the Utah Symphony Orchestra. I'm affiliated via
my membership in the Utah Symphony Chorus.
The website can
be found at www.utahsymphony.org
--cyn Edit: Would you
believe me if I told you when I typed this the last 3 posts weren't
on, thus I missed the fact that Ryan beat me to it? Strange, but
true

New orchestra in
Houston
I just visited your website and am impressed. Many physicians are
musically inclined. I think succeeding as a musician and succeeding
as a physician requires some similar attributes, starting with drive
and determination.
I play in Houston as well - HSO - and am
glad to learn of your orchestra. Best of luck with your upcoming
concert.

Re: New

Many thanks. We're definately not "Bad Boys", but we have a good
cello section for a bunch of doctors and researchers. The HSO has
been helping us alot by providing music with fingerings and bowings.
When are the "Bad Boys" having their next concert?

BBoC
The only thing scheduled right now is a Community Outreach program
at Star of Hope Men's Shelter next Wednesday in which only 4 or 5 of
us will play. On April Fool's Day we had a concert that involved
nearly the entire section at the Centrum in NW Houston. It included
some serious music such as Bachianas and a great arrangement of
Brandenburg 6, and some fun stuff such as an 8 cello arrangement of
Dueling Banjos, La Bamba, some jazz, tunes from old movies and TV
shows. We also designed the concert to poke fun at some of the
sacred cows of music making such as being late for a concert or the
ubiquitous cell phone disturbances. Jim "Wild Thang" Denton arrived
late for the concert during the 2nd number - a beautiful Chopin
Prelude - by driving his motorcycle right onstage. And "Smart Ass"
Chris French, with the assistance of my bow hand and Des Hoebig's
left hand, showed everyone it is possible to take cell phone calls
while performing the Pachelbel Canon.
We had fun but don't
have any immediate plans for more of same - it is very difficult to
get 9 or 10 cellists together for such an event!

Re: BBoC
The April Fool's concert sounds like it was a blast. Sorry I missed
it. I check your web site once a month or so and never saw it. I
hope I can catch your show some time in the future.
