I was given a gig, compensation?
I am new to the professional cello world, and was passed along a ten-week (5 shows per week)gig by another cellist. She had other committments and gave my name to the musical director, who hired me on the spot. Is is customary to give the giver something? A cash gift to say thanks? A Shar gift certificate? A thank you note? What should I do? I made a nice lump of money from the job. Any suggestions would be helpful.

Thanks...
If you've got to give away - give it to her. Until then - I agree with Sarah.

My opinioon on this is that you should write a think-you note. Write it by hand, yourself; it will become a more personal message that way. I would also say not to give cash; doing so would make it a professional and not personal relationship to this person, and whenever you see each other you would think of money. So write personal thank-you note yourself, but skip the cash.
