Gendron
anyone?
what's the matter with everyone here? all this talk and arguing
about if Feuerman is better than Rose or Rostropovich or Starker?
why hasn't anyone ever mentioned the cello genius of the 20th
century, Maurice Gendron? Gendron had the most amazing sound and bow
technique...haven't you heard his dvorak concerto? okay, so my
teacher was his pupil, but that doesn't change the fact that gendron
was a cello god! and nobody here has had the smarts enough to
mention that yet? get a clue! oh...I'm getting a bit
opinionated...ooops.....

Re: Gendron

Well, considering that you want me impeached, I'm not sure if I
want to reply to this post or not. But at least you are trying to
start a thread of cellistic interest.
If you've been with us
long enough, Tuvok, you'll realize that this question of who the
greatest cellist is has been done over and over again. It's pretty
pointless.
Gendron made some recordings on the Phillips
label, if I recall. Just what do you find so amazing about his
playing?
I think Rose and Rostropovich had/has a more singing
sound than Gendron did.
Are you also a Fournier fan? Who has
his Gofriller now? I know that Yo Yo Ma had it for some time before
he got the Davidov Strad.

re
I know what you mean, it's so easy to become biased about your own
teacher's playing (and the people who you're teacher studied with) .
But i also think Maurice Gendron is great, his bach and haydn
recordings are my favorite.

gendron cello
book
hello!
well, it is true that most people here are
starker/rose fans. i bought a practise book by maurice gendron,
puplished posthumously. its called die kunst des violoncellospiels,
and its by schott publishing.
i think the book is excellent,
it has some exercises and a wealth of musical examples from basic
repertoire. and lot of good tips, in deutch of
course.
gendron says in this book, that with practise it is
possible to develop good vibrato for thumb also, which opens new
possibilities for fingering. not only passing tones, but also long
notes can be beautifully sustained with thumb...
all the
best, sasha

What
about...
...someone so new to the cello that he or she didn't have any idea
about different cellist's playing?

Looking for
gendron recording
Actually I admire much in Gendron's playing. I remember hearing a
very good LP recording of him playing the original version of the
Boccherini Bb and (?) maybe Haydn D on the flip side? I wonder if
this recoding is on CD? I ould love to hear it again. The only CD I
have now is the Saint-Saens concerto, which I don't like as much.

Re: Looking for

Don't know if it's on cd, but I've got that lp. It is Haydn D on
the flip side and Casals is conducting.
