My tuppence
ha'penny
Well, I keep putting my nose in here every so often, and replying
to the occasional post, and it seems like fun so I thought I would
put a little message here and ask everyone for their
advice.
Since I came to Universtiy I haven't done as much
practice as I should, and I don't have lessons anymore, so if ever I
do practice I just end up replaying old music, which is fun, but I'm
not learning anything new.
So. What new music should I play?
I've played lots of Bach Suites and Vivaldi Sonatas, and Brahms E
minor, and Bosanquets Elegie, and a few other things of about the
same standard, but I've probably gone slightly down hill since then,
but what should I play?
Have got quite a good music shop
here, so not too much of a problem in that
line.
Help!

collections are
nice for goofing around with . . .
There are a couple of nice collections that have moderately easy
pieces that are fun to play. I've got two that I like: Cellist
Favorite Contest Pieces Solos for the Cello There is some
overlap, but enough difference so it's worth owning them both. The
pieces are short enough you can learn them quickly and have playing
them (things like The Swan, Allegro Appasionata (spelling??)).

Collections
I was scared when you said collections are fun, that is what my
exams at the beginning of every term are called!
Um I have
got a book of stuff like this it's the Romantic Cellist (horribly
dated picture of Julian Lloyd Weber wearing hideous shirt on front
cover) and it has Swan, Allegro Appassionata, Apres un Reve,
Liebestraum, Song Without Words, Kol Nidrei (can't spell), Faure
Elegie and stuff in it, so would there be major overlap between this
and the otherones you mentioned?
