Cellos
I am looking for a cello in the price range from 1500 to 2300 dollars. I know this is the low end for cellos but think im getting ripped off right now. Any help is appreciated. Thank You.

Re: Cellos
Ifshin of Berkeley has a German cello in this price range which is pretty decent. Also, try Cellos2Go and Stringworks, both of which have good reputations. Also, if a shop is selling you a new cello, try to compare the prices with discount shops on the internet. It is reasonable for a local shop to be more expensive, but not twice as expensive. I think your best buy is a pre-owned cello, but it can be hard to find one.

The "eBay"
You may find at www.ebay.com for some celli for auction. I have seen a GLIGA VASILE 4/4 MAESTRO CELLO there with a first bid price of US$1,600. It seems great.

Hope the information is helpful.

Cellos
Having tried out several lower priced cellos, I now got a Maestro from Stringworks- it's a new line, chinese, and has an excellent sound. Now it is $1600, but I am told the price will go up. And they are good people to deal with. Herbert.

You might want to also check out http://www.sharmusic.com/ They've got some decent cellos in that price range.

Re: Cellos
I paid $2500 for my Van Aue German made student cello. I like it quite a bit. I tried four of them (same model - that is "identical") and one didn't impress me much at all and the other two were OK. I liked this one much more.

A former fellow student had a Doetsch. It sounded very nice to me. However, I heard "rumors" that they can vary a lot from instrument to instrument and that the way in which they were constructed meant they wouldn't last a long time. It was a luthier who wanted to sell me something else telling me this . . . so keep that in mind. I believe this cello cost about the same as (or a little less than) mine.

I don't like to be ripped off either. I tend to buy mail order when I can. But with something that is as personal, quirky, unique, etc., etc. as a cello . . . I don't mind paying more. I got more. I got a practice room a fist full of bows, several cellos, and when I brought it back because the action was too high . . . it turned out the neck angle was off. They re-aligned it (no small project) . . . for free.

Re: Cellos
Hey, Chris I was curious, how do you to produce those extended links that take you to an exact page on a site? I want to add a link to a particular page at Shar in my post, but my server doesn't show the linked address unless I leave ICS and manually write down what's in the address box at that page and come back to ICS and type what I wrote down. Is there an easier way to produce an extended link?

Chris

links
it depends on how the site is set up. you can just right click and "open in new window", and you'll get the link you want in the address bar (this is if you are using a pc sorry i'm not familar with macs) or you can right click the page and go to "properties" and you'll see the URL in the window that pops up.

happy linking.

Re: Cellos
After having played a Shar instrument in that price range only briefly, thank heavens, my advice would be to go look at the old German cello.

Re: Cellos
Absolutely go to www.stringworks.com

They have the best quality, best program, best service of any internet company selling musical instruments that I have ever seen.

I purchased from them and have absolutely no complaints. I think they helped Webster define customer satisfaction.
