Re: Help--Cello
sounds different!
The strings should be inserted in the peg hole and wound over the
top of the pegs, so that turning the pegs towards the top of the
scroll tightens the string. Make sure that the string winds onto the
peg so there is not too much of an angle on the string in the pegbox
and that it is a close as possible to be in a straight line from the
nut to the peg, i.e. not forming a sharp angle between the nut and
peg.
Also, make sure that the feet of your bridge are not
tilted forward and that they fit to the belly of the cello quite
tightly. Sometimes when you tighten strings as much as you have had
to do, the bridge will become tilted in a forward direction. If the
bridge is tilted toward the fingerboard, then grasp it at the top
just below the strings and apply a gentle, but firm, pressure to
move it back. The bridge feet should be flat on the belly and the
aligned in the center with the two nicks in the f-holes as well. You
will have to adjust the tuning the cello again if you make this
adjustment, because of the movement of the bridge.
I am
asuming that the soundpost has not moved. You can check to make sure
that it is still vertical by looking in the A string f-hole with a
strong light directed at it. If you see any evidence that it may be
tilted at angle, take your cello to a repair person and have the
post re-set. I hope this helps.
