scratches
The best thing to do it to take it to a competent repairperson who
does this kind of thing on a daily bassis. They will seal the
wood where the scratches are, and touch them up with new varnish.
This is very difficult to learn and you shouldn't try it
yourself. One thing you might try which won't hurt your cello is
the following: go to the natural foods store and get some sweet
almond oil. Put a little on your finger and wipe it on the scratch,
depending on your varnish, you may be surprised to see it disappear!
Wipe off any excess with a paper towel, and don't put it all over
your instrument, it'll turn into a gooey mass. Good luck.
