pirastro olive
question?
I bought my first set of pirastro olives today and I like the
bottom three strings, but the a sounds horrible! It's twangy and
squeaky. Is this expected at first? Does it get better? Do most
people use the gut A string?

Gut
strings
This is a great question Rich. When I first bought Eudoxas for my
cello I had the same problem. The 'A' string was horrible. I wound
up getting Jargars for my A and D and keeping the Eudoxas on C and
G. Seems to be a great setup for my cello, but I'm interested to
know if the A string is a problem for others.

a string
for the a string i use chorda (unwound gut) it stays in tune very
well, sounds great and is cheap. The other strings are oliv. I like
this combination very much.

Re: pirastro
olive question?
I tried gut A and D but they just didn't speak enough for the kind
of repertoire that I was performing. Now I use Larsen solo loud A
and D, and Pirastro Olive C and G. I used Eudoxas for years, but
found the sound to flabby to blend with the upper metal strings in
the end.
