I heard a performance on the radio that seemed like it must have been with Heiftetz and Piatigorsky. Does anyone know if they recorded this? What are some good recordings of this? I have an old tape of Cleveland and Tokyo. I thought about starting a new topic on this... There are actually two reasons: I love this piece!!! And I`m going to play the second mvt next week in an all-Mendelssohn recital. YIPPIEHH! There`ll perform lots of pianists and singers in this recital, so we decided to play something for strings only and chose the Octet. In addition to it, we`ll play the Allegretto from Fanny Mendelssohn-Hendels SQ (very energetic mvt) and I`m really looking forward to perform the Variations concertantes op. 17. Wish me luck... I don't remember all of the cast (I will have to go downstairs to find it later), but I know Gabor Rejto is the other cellist, Israel Baker is one of the other violinists, and I think Primrose is one of the violists. Wonderful recording, as are most of the series. The violists, Michael Tree & Samuel Rhodes. Cellists, Leslie Parnas & David Soyer. I assume this is the piece you're talking about. I love it! The recording I have is rather obscure. My aunt gave it to me for my birthday It's called Chamber Music Classics, a 2-disc set, with Mozart's String Quintet in g, the Schubert Trout Quintet and Beethoven "Ghost" Trio.
