Yucky Larsen
D
I recently tried the Larsen strings for the first time on my cello.
While the A string was fine (maybe a little wimpy), the D string
sounded just aweful! It's hard to describe how terrible it was, but
it sounded like a guitar string or something. So much for the warm
sound Larsens are supposed to have!
Has anyone else ever had
that trouble? It was so bad, I thought the string was
defective...
Also, where do you all buy your strings? I'm
still searching for a cheap mail-order place.

PS.
These links are so strange. I just tried this blue "ezboard" and
Ellen's site came up. It's www.cellos2go.com

Every so often a string is "bad" but if you haven't used them
before on your cello it is hard to know if that is the case. I once
got a tinny D, and called the vendor, and arranged to return it.

Before you toss the Larsen D, try giving it a week or two. In my
experience, Larsens tend to take a little longer to "play in" than
other A and D strings. I usually wait until the last possible minute
to put on a new Larsen A and D because of the play-in time; for me,
it's a few days but it depends how much you play.
And
remember, not all strings sound the same on all
cellos.

Using a different brand of string may require that your cello be
adjusted. For example, if your cello is set up to sound good with
"tighter" strings like Prims or Jargars, Larsons may initially sound
"flabby". A slight "tweaking" of the post could solve the problem.

I have no idea but I know that my spirocore G and C come in either
silver or tungston (which is what I have). I accidently bought a
silver G once and it sounded really mettalic like a guitar string.
But i'm not sure if larsens come in several forms like the
spirocore. I am probably way off so pardon me if i am. haha
