Carbon Fiber
Cellos
Recently, I have noticed carbon fiber cellos... and began looking
at various makers, and the concept of a carbon fiber cello itself.
It poses several questions. Does this kind of cello have a good tone
quality? Can this be used as a person's everyday cello (as opposed
to using it just for traveling, or outdoor gigs), would this be
practical? Any information, regarding these questions or just
general info on the Carbon Fiber Cello, would be really helpful!!
Thanks, ace11ist.

Re: Carbon Fiber

You might want to cross-post this question to Cello Chat, someone
who looks in on/contributes to that board owns one and uses it as
his "beater" cello, for outdoor gigs, etc.

Re: Carbon Fiber
Cellos
I have a student with a carbon fiber cello, made by Quintus. It's
quite a decent instrument. My student's parents liked the
"indestructability" of it. Cellos are awfully delicate, but not this
one.

Re: Carbon Fiber

My former teacher bought one for teaching and gigs as she didn't
like carting her old French cello everywhere. It has a very nice
sound and is comparable to a traditional cello in the same price
range. She has a Quintus. To me, the sound difference is like
hearing a composite clarinet vs. a wood clarinet. It's subtle, but
it is there.
