Re: also
You can use full-sized strings on a 3/4 size cello. No problem.
Ellen, of http://www.cellos2go.com/
told me that they found the A and D Larsens and G and C Helicores
were a good setup for most smaller cellos. I'm also found all
Helicores work well if the cello isn't already too bright sounding.
There are a number of online sources. I've ordered from Cellos2Go,
and Ifshins ( http://www.ifshinviolins.com/
) and Discount Strings (http://www.discountstrings.com/
) for strings and all were reliable and quick.

Try
cellos2go.com
The ICS' own EllenG runs http://www.cellos2go.com/
with the best strings prices I've seen anywhere. I saved nearly 50
bucks on my last cellos2go string order!

Re: cello

Not to compete with Ellen
(who's website I just looked at the other day, btw, and it looked
like a great place to buy strings from!), but there's also
concordmusic.com, a place that I just ordered strings from for the
first time... they haven't arrived yet though, so I'm just hoping it
all works out. I have also ordered from Discount Strings (see
Bobbie's post), but they aren't my favorite. They can't seem to
figure out how to pack a music stand in a box so that the tall leg
part thingy doesn't poke a hole in the box and fall out during
shipping! I had a bit of a problem ordering my music stand from them
as you can tell .... but
the strings usually turn out ok!

Plus, you'll get personal and friendly service from Ellen. Not saying
that that won't happen with a larger company, but it seems less
likely.

Wait a
minute!
You live in NJ and can't find cello strings? Email me off my
profile and tell me where you live; I'll tell you where you can buy
strings in person. This is not the middle of Kansas. No offense to
people from Kansas, I was just trying to make a point.
You
should have a place to go to get cello things in a pinch.

nyc
strings
You don't even need to order online! If you live in NJ and would be
willing to travel to Brooklyn, there are places even closer. Try
Strings and Other Things (I hope I got that right) it's in a
building directly across the street from Lincoln Center. You can
just look it up on Yahoo Yellow Pages. I've gone there plenty of
times to get strings. I agree with DoDahlberg, if you have access
to NYC there's plenty of places to get strings, plus you save on
shipping charges, etc

Re: cello

And speaking of discount strings...
I saw an item in their
catalog that claimed to be a portable music stand that could fit in
a violin case, all for $2.95. Of course I ordered one. I'm going
back to order 10 more. They work! Great for sending kids off to
music camp with, etc.
It's no wonder I make NO money teaching
- I spend it all (and more) on cello stuff.

Yes, of course, Cheryl but I know of a place in Monmouth Co. and
another in Madison. And, if she's down by you, there's Phili. We all
need a 'shop' close by.

Re: of course

Hmmm, so far, my string shopping experiences in the PA suburbs of
Philly have been less than encouraging.
"Why sure, we have
these SuperSensitive Red Labels..."
Maybe MsCheryl knows
where some _real_ places are. I assume perhaps some of the major
string shops in center city might have a decent selection, but they
might also be full (*gasp* *choke*) price.
I've been relying
on the on-line sources and keeping a spare set on hand. (Easier
since I won a set as a door prize at the Penn State Cello Festival
last Fall.)

Re: of course

MsCheryl, I'm not clueless I know there are parts of nj that are
not close to nyc. Maybe I'm in the minority but in my 23 yrs of life
I've developed this uncanny skill and ability to pick up clues and
hints from a little info. (i.e. since she said the only place she
could find was a place in brooklyn and qualified it by stating she
lived in nj seems to indicate that she lives closer to nyc than
further. I could be wrong though). Also even with the 8% sales
tax, I prefer buying strings in person. It might not be that huge a
savings considering shipping even if she could find a cheap discount
online source, but I'd rather go get the strings and have them right
away than sit around waiting for them to be mailed to me. Maybe it's
the ny'er in me
