Amusing Cello
Commercial
Last night I saw a commercial for a hair coloring product that I
had not seen before. It had 2 young women, one wailing away on an
electric guitar, the other peacefully playing her cello. The whole
point was to contrast the two women's styles, but to show that they
both use the same haircolor. The funny part is that the "cellist"
was using her RIGHT hand on the fingerboard, and just sort of
sliding her fingers up and down. I was laughing so hard, I did not
even notice if she had a bow in her LEFT hand or not! Ah, Hollywood!
So much for research on accuracy when commercials are made. She
probably had long and pointy fingernails, too

Right hand on
fingerboard
In Sav. Symphony programs last season there was a photo of cellists
from one of the student string groups and the photo had been
reversed so that it looked like the kids were playing with right
hands on the fingerboard.

Re: Amusing

Yeah. Somebody posted this a little while ago. I used to bike race.
At the time a movie came out "Breaking Away". They had a kid
drafting a semi going 50 mph in his small chainring. If this doesn't
mean anything to you, it's like a Geo Metro going 104mph in first
gear. My wife is a doctor. She used to watch ER. Oh that there, that
would NEVER happen and that, that would have killed the patient,
etc., etc.

Re: Right hand
on fingerboard
A couple of years ago, the Strad had an article on string teaching
in England and the large picture that accompanied it was of a line
of young cellists-- and it had been reversed so they were all
playing backwards. The title of the article asked in large letters
"What's Wrong With String Teaching in Britain?"
Perfect!
