Want to begin
the cello...is my hand too small?
I am interested in learning to play the cello. I have rather small
hands - 8" from the tip of my thumb to the tip of my pinky when my
hand is stretched. Will I have problems with the cello based upon my
hand size? I imagine that anything less than a 4/4 cello would
compromise sound.

That's what my hand measuers, too, and I've been enjoying the cello
for 6 years now. But if it's a concern, you might want to try a 7/8
cello. There are several folks here who are quite pleased with their
7/8 instruments.
Go for it!

Not an excuse, though I tried to use it for awhile, LOL - my
stretch is 7 and 1/2 " - I play on a 4/4 with out any
difficulty. I know a professional Double Bass player with the
same width measurement and we're talking BIG intervals there.
