yeah, don't!
Really!

Stretching your hands isn't the answer, releasing tension and other fingers is. I have small hands too. Lemme see...

looks like about 7 1/2 inches from thumb to pinky- so a little bigger than yours, but not much.

The secret to not hurting your hands is to AVOID stretching by releasing and shifting weight between fingers. The only time you really need to stretch is playing double stops and even then you can change the angle of your hand to help reach some of those, or use alternate fingerings.

You want your hands to be nice and warmed up and flexible, but don't try to force them, you could hurt yourself.

Best wishes

little hands
I, too, have little hands. In the lower positions, I don't stretch at all. I Keep my upper hand (fingers 2,3,4 and thumb) together and point my first finger toward my ear while bringing my elbow down toward the cello. This is harder in the 4th-6th position area because the cello body gets a bit in the way of the elbow, but you can still point and collapse your upper hand so it is very curvy.

How do you manage the E to E stretch during the pedal point in the prelude of the 3rd Bach Suite? I consider myself to have small hands and i can barely make the stretch using my index and pinky.

Cossman......?
I'm not the best person to answer you, so don't take me too seriously :) . But what about the Cossman exercises? Some of those could be helpful with shifting the weight of your hand and rotating your hand, etc.
I'm not a pro though, but it's an idea...

Re: small hands
In the 3rd Suite I do a very quick pivot-shift thing. Works fine.

As far as Cossman goes- good exercises for building strength, but also can be dangerous I believe. I would suggest using them only in moderation, and then only if you can keep your hand tension free. Otherwise, OUCH! I don't really think they help much "stretching" your hand. Your hand is the size it is, you have to learn to work with it.
