Looking for a Cello Book
I have been looking for a book that was listed in the bibliography of The New Grove Musical Instrument Series, "The Violin Family" and cannot locate it anywhere. The book is called "Everything you wanted to know about the Baroque cello" by Nona Pyron, London, 1979. No publisher was stated, so it may have been a journal article or other non-book publication. Has anyone ever come across this book or article? David, have you ever had a copy of this book?

Thanks

Terry

Terry - this is a long shot but a Dr Nona Pyron is listed as a teacher on the www.scyas.org website. The contact address is The Southern California Young Artists Symphony
PO Box 543,Loma Linda, CA 92354. Maybe they could help if it is the same Nona Pyron?

It's not a self-titled book
If i remember correctly "Everything you wanted to know about the Baroque cello" is a chapter/section in the William Pleeth book entitled "Cello". I think this book should be easier to find. If you do not mind not owning it, i have borrowed it from my local library.

Doh - Christopher is right. The William Pleeth book 'cello' does indeed have a chapter by Nona Pyron called An Introduction to the History of the Cello. It's under Part Four, The History and Repertoire of the Cello.

Maybe this is similar to the previous book/article you saw Terry?

Re: Looking for a Cello Book
I have the Pleeth book in my collection of music books, but the reference in the Grove book/article (1979) predates the Pleeth book (1982) by three years. There is probably a lot of what is in the baroque cello book I am looking for, in the Pleeth book, but I thought it might be interesting to have both. The New Grove Violin (1980) book, where I found the reference, also predates the Pleeth book. I have sent an e-mail inquiry to the address in Allxya's previous post to see if I can contact Nona Pyron.

Thanks

Terry

I've got it!
it is a reprint from an article in The Strad and in The American Violoncello Society dated october 1978.
It gives no editor, or ISBN number whatsoever, but if you want I can make you a copy.
