SummerKeys
Is anyone attending SummerKeys this month? If so, what session? It
seems as though the curriculum has changed. Any ideas about what to
bring, what not to bring etc. Any spots we should be sure to visit?
Any tips about the airport in Bangor? Ther drive down etc.? Any and
all info would be most appreciated.
Thanks again y'all. CS

Re:
SummerKeys
I was planning to attend the first week, but that fell through. But
I'll be popping up there for a visit.
What to bring: A
sweater/jacket - chilly nights A camera - it's a quaint little
town, you'll want to have pix Clothespins - you may have lessons
outdoors, you'll probably end up practicing outdoors at some point.
They help keep your music from blowing around.
What to
visit: You have to drive out to West Quoddy Head! It's such a
heavenly spot - that gorgeous red & white lighthouse, with
oodles of hiking trials. Nice place for a picnic lunch. Also an
inspiring spot for practice. (But bring bug spray!) Campobello
Island - just over the bridge from Lubec is Canada. One thing you
should visit on Campobello is the Roosevelt "summer cottage". It's
keep exactly as it was when FDR summered there. Interesting step
into the past, specatacular gardens. After you leave there, keep
driving to the end of Campobello Island (signs point the way) to
East Quoddy Head - another lighthouse. If you go at low tide, you
can walk out to the lighthouse. But just get back before the tide
comes in!
Don't know about the airport. I think it's about a
4 hour drive from Bangor - some of it's scenic. Some of it's boring.
Hope you have a tape deck/CD player in your car!
Where are
you coming from? What week are you attending? Where will you be
staying?
Hope you have a great time
there!

summerkeys
website?
I'm not attending this year, but CS, I hope you have a wonderful
time. I really, really want to go next year, but can't seem to find
the website anymore for the registration info. I know I've been
there before, but can't get gack. Do you have it? Or at least a
phone number? I think the man to contact is Bruce, right? Do
anyone know the earliest you can register? I tried to go last year,
but it was full by the time I sent in my check, and I don't want
that to happen again. Thanks!

Re: summerkeys
website?
A definite for me as well - I'll be watching like a hawk this year
to make sure I make the cut off date. Seems like it filled up around
Jan/Feb.

Re: summerkeys
website?
The website is down. I don't know why. This year is full - has been
for some time now.
Bruce Potterton is the man you want to
speak with about next year. From June - Sept. he's at 6 Bayview St.,
Lubec, ME 04652.
Many repeat campers leave their deposit for
the next year right after attending, so several slots fill up right
away. Since there are a limited number of openings, it's not
uncommon for it to be filled by December, then you're left waiting
for somebody (like me!) who has to cancel. FWIW - I've already sent
my deposit for 2002! If you have the $100 to send, I'd do it sooner
rather than later.

Re:
SummerKeys
Thanks for all the info--I am attending the last week in August,
the second cello session and staying at the Peacock House. I am
renting a car to drive down from Bangor, I was told it was 110
miles, and I am hoping it doesn't take 4 hours as I am arrivng at 6
p.m. in Bangor from Los Angeles! We shall see.
Thanks again!

Re:

Yeah, I guess I was off the mark with the 4 hours guess. 2-3 is
more like it.
Rats, I won't get to meet you. I'm not
attending camp, but I am planning on driving up on Wed. of the first
week, just for an overnight visit. Call me crazy - but I gotta have
my Lubec fix somehow!
Have a great time there!

Thanks for the advice about cellokeys. And here I was, feeling like
an earlybird for even thinking about next year's before this year's
occurred! I've just sent off my check to Bruce in Lubec. I hope
he gets it! The place looks absolutely beautiful. I was heartbroken
two years ago when I found out it was full. --Claudine
