Ouch! The skin on my fingers peels...advice needed
I have never had true calluses on my fingers, just tough spots of skin. The problem is that when I play the skin peels off, particularly on my first and second fingers. Even when I am not playing the skin peels off when I get my hands wet. HELP! Does anyone have any suggestions of what to do to help my fingers or prevent this peeling of the skin??? Any advice is GREATLY appreciated!

See a dermatologist
You should go see a skin doctor and find out why your skin won't make callouses.

some people can't make callouses..
But most people can and do, unless you are one of the unfortuante few, try putting on surgical spirit - rubbing alcohol for those of you in the States. This will encourage the skin to harden gradually, try not to leave them for too long in hot water, this can make anyone's finger tips peel!! You could try a little Bag balm or something similar to conteract the soreness.

sore fingers
I must say i completely disagree with the surgical spirit idea-i`ve done that and it made mine worse-so sore i couldn`t play.I found rubbing a cream, antiseptic or otherwise or if youre into aromatherapy an oil ,really helped mine.

calluses
Back in ancient days (when I was in high school) and participating (mostly sitting on the bench) in athletics, there was a product called something like "Tuff Skin" - a kind of stickly liquid which we applied to blister-prone areas. It did seem to help develop calluses.

I have no idea if such a product is still available.
