Curious about Replacing Endpins
Been reading previous posts about replacing end-pins. My end-pin has those knobby bits inside that stop it being pulled completely out. Everyone seems to be saying that the only way to remove it is to remove the entire assembly.

Is it not possible to cut through the spike, say with a hack-saw, and somehow get the inside bit out through the f-hole?

Has anyone tried this, or is it just not a good idea???

Re: Curious about Replacing Endpins
It's possible to do what you are saying but doing so will most likely cause some damage inside your cello. Your realy don't want a jagged piece of metal rattling around on the inside of your cello.
Removing the endpin plug isn't a big deal and is very easily done. I've had a cello where you could not take out the endpin, and all you have to do to is take out the assembly and file down the "nubs" that are preventing the endpin from coming out. It is usually just some metal soldered onto the endpin. After you file it down you can take the endpin out easily.
