Giuseppe Sinopoli dead
I just read that the Italian
conductor Giuseppe Sinopoli died last night on the podium while
conducting the 3rd act of Aida (what a way to go). Did any of the
prof cellists here played under him? Any
recollections?

Important figure...
Maestro Sinopoli was an important
figure in the blossoming career of cellist Han-Na Chang: They toured
and did several cd's together.

sinopoli
I just wanted to post it. I'm very
sad, as I think he was REALLY one of the most important and the most
interesting conductors. And I'm shocked, as he was only 54 and
leaves wife and two children. I have always been very impressed of
his career: he studied psychology and medicine before he was a
conductor and not long ago began studying archaelogy for his
personal interest and own a big collection of antique artefacts. All
this had a specific influence on his music-making, which cannot be
imitated.

Sinopoli----I was there.......
This was probably the most moving
experience in my life: Yesterday night subbing at the Deutsche Oper
Berlin, Aida, during the 3rd Act he collapsed, lateron we heard that
he died at the hospital - everyone was shocked. Sinopoli has been
the chief-conductor of the Deutsche Oper Berlin 1990-92, left there
because of problems with the general manager Götz Friedrich who died
a couple of month ago. Sinopoli dedicated this performance to
Friedrich ! Tonight Kent Nagano and my orchestra dedicated our
concert to him.....that´s life....R.I.P.
