Re: At
Long Last - Leonard Rose Remembered!
Thanks for this WONDERFUL news!!!!
The fact that the recordings with Hambro have languished in
Columbia's vaults for over 40 years is criminal. Many thanks to
'Governor' Ballantyne for granting 'executive clemency' to these
unjustly imprisoned recordings. The Schubert, Sammartini, and
Boccherini items in particular contain, IMHO, some of the most
beautiful cello playing ever captured on tape. I have been inspired
and moved by those recordings for 30 years and I can't wait to hear
this latest incarnation. I urge ALL cello chatters to hear this most
elegant and expressive of American cellists at the height of his
powers. GMS
PS. Any chance Rose's >SPECTACULAR<
'live' NY Phil performance of the Shulman Concerto will ever make it
to CD???

Gary,
You are copmletely
right about these Rose recordings. They are in a class by
themselves. Isn't it true that he did the Schubert in one take?
Astounding!
I will ask the governor about the Shulman (of
which I'm sure HE has a copy of).
ORDER TODAY!!!
*I'm
not affiliated with the University or foundation selling these CDs,
I just think it would be just as much a crime to misso out on this
opportunity a second time around.

Well, apparently I'm missing
something here. I see everything else except where/how to order.
Must be a senior moment.
I like the sound of "WGMS" but
regret it is not OUR GMS.

I called 301-405-7847 (open 11-9
eastern time), and after being on hold only about 5 or 6 minutes, I
got a very friendly operator to take my charge
card. Everybody......Do it!

I'd say there's pretty much
universal agreement as to the importance of this release. Both from
an historical and from an artistic perspective, this is something
that EVERYONE who cares about the cello should own. It ranks with
the Pearl "Feuermann Columbias," and the EMI "Russian Years" for
Slava and "Les Introuvables" for Starker as one of the major
documents for our instrument. I can't wait to finally hear these
matchless performances in good, clean transfers.

Wasn't even put on hold before I was
able to order my 2. (No, the other is for a friend. My collection is
WAY too big to handle duplicates!) Now, back to
Stock......................................................
