Pickups/Amps
Hey hey
I'm looking into getting a pickup and amp for my cello. What brand of pickups would be good for someone who wants to buy in the $100-$200 (Canadian)range? Also, what kind of amp? Would I use a guitar amp, bass or keyboard? Or something totally different??
This is my first time getting a pickup set up on my cello so I have no clue what to look for!

Help!

I don't know from personal experience, but...
I remember noticing that Erik Friedlander had fairly extensive info on his site, both what he uses & stuff pulled from usenet discussions:

bass amp and gage
I have a friend who playing in a lot of professional bands and she uses the Gage pickup, which fits under the foot of the bridge (not good if you have a delicate cello, though) and says it's hands down the BEST. But on her fancy, Italian cello she uses a Fishman with a really expensive "pre-amp".

I've tried and liked Barcus-Barry (sp?), which clamps on the bridge.
