Which Bach Suite...
Which Bach Suite do you like the most? I'm partial to number four, myself.

Re: Which Bach Suite...
I also like number 4, for its dark sonorities (because of how E Flat works on the cello) that many cellists think of as a drawback.

#6 is great when played on a 5-string cello. The piece really does sound better without all the stress and strain of playing without the top string. Imagine playing any of the other suites without an A string!

I will cast a vote for the Fourth suite as well......
My runner up is #2.
My favorite to play is probably #3 (or 4), but I haven't done 6 yet so that could change.

Hey
I like 4 too!

I always thought that was weird... most people I hear talk about which one they like best always say 2 or 3 or 5.

hmm.

I like 5, mostly because it's the one that's hardest for me to play.

For me, it's got to be 5 and 6 hands down (which is the only way I can play them!:) )

I play them all the time (on my cd player!:b )

four?
I cried many a tear trying to get that thing in tune, not to mention memorizing it! But I did grow to love it. Right now I'm partial to 5 because of how the cello sounds with a high g string.

Whichever one I'm working on at the time! :lol

No, seriously... you can get so involved in the complexities (and the beautiful simplicity)that yes, absolutely, *this* one is the best... then you go on to another one at another point and get drawn into that one. I guess it's a matter of personally *becoming* your music.

Eep. Deep thoughts.

Re: Which Bach Suite...
I like #6 on a 4-string cello best. The tension created when playing higher up on the A string adds more drama and excitement.

This is the one suite that is not subdued by a lower registration. I like to think of a tenor singing and reaching up for those high e's f#'s & g's.
