3 Haydn
Cello Concertos?
Maria Kliegel has a CD out of 3
Haydn concertos. She says it will be the premiere of the 3rd, anyone
know about this? Was the 3rd recently found or something? I thought
it was lost, as well as the 6th, and that 4 and 5 were probably
composed by others.
Quote:
My latest releases on Naxos are the 3 Haydn concertos, which are
now available in Germany and on the international market in 2001.
Of the 3 concertos by Haydn, the third in D major has not been
recorded so this will be the premiere.

Re: 3
Haydn Cello Concertos?
The "other" Concerto in D, allegedly
by Haydn, has already been recorded by Julian Lloyd-Webber. Maria
could certainly be forgiven if she'd overlooked that. But this
"other" concerto's provenance is even less credible than the one
that's still attributed to Haydn. In other words, keep your shirts
on.

..yeah,
but...
Yeah, but it is still music... and
not too bad either. We shouldn't throw away a concerto just because
the attribution is uncertain. I have the cello/piano reduction of
it. It is quite cute and has its moments. I heard somewhere that
maybe Constanzi (??) wrote it.

(Lost) Hob. VIIb:4 Concerto for cello in D (Probably composed by
Costanzi) Hob. VIIb:5 Concerto for cello in C (Forgery(?)
