THE CELLO PATH is an original, as well as traditional, approach to learning
to play the cello. Students of all ages are welcome. Beginning adults, of
any age, are encouraged to enjoy the adventure of musical exploration through
the beauty of sound. Along with learning the basics of cello technique and
musicianship, there is also an emphasis on imagination development which then
allows direct creative expression on the instrument.
Maria is a concert and recording cellist. She is a recipient of a Coleman
Chamber Music Award and was a member of the Berkeley Master Class given by
Pablo Casals. She has performed solo, chamber, and new music concerts,
including her own music and original scores she created for theatical and dance
productions. Maria has performed with Ishtar and Buto, two
free-improvisational ensembles,as well as several world fusion groups. She
has done extensive recording for films, records and television and served for
four years on the Board of Directors of the National Academy of Recording
Arts and Sciences (NARAS). Maria also plays a 5-string electric Cobra cello.
Her teaching career spans over thirty years.

Comments: George Neikrug was a pupil of the legendary Emanuel Feuermann. In 1943, he met the well-known pedagogue D.C. Dounis, whose revolutionary approach to the problems of string playing and teaching influenced him to
completely revamp his playing and create the unique style he has retained to this day. This association lasted for a period of fifteen years, and Neikrug felt such a debt to Dounis for all the knowledge and skills he had learned
that he resolved to devote his life to teaching at schools, such as Boston University, and giving master classes all over the world. His www.neikrug.org site provides information about pain-free playing and offers
personalized answers to technical questions.
