Peter Steffens

Peter Steffens, a member of the Dallas Symphony since 1995, is a graduate of the University of Wisconsin-Madison where he studied with Lowell Creitz and Parry Karp of the Pro Arte Quartet. In high school he was a soloist with the Madison and Milwaukee symphonies, and has had master classes with Zara Nelsova, Ronald Leonard, David Finckel, Laurence Lesser, Raya Garbousova, Laszlo Varga, and a summer of study with Gabor Rejto.

From 1988 to 1990 Mr. Steffens was the principal cellist of the New World Symphony in Miami where he also performed chamber music with pianist with Jeffrey Kahane, conductor Leon Kirchner, former Chicago Symphony Concertmaster Reuben Gonzalez, and pianist/conductor Michael Tilson Thomas. From 1990 to 1995 he was the principal cellist and frequent soloist with the Charleston South Carolina Symphony Orchestra. He was a member of the Quartet in Residence at the College of Charleston, and an adjunct faculty member there, and performed chamber music for the Piccolo Spoleto Festival.

Currently Mr. Steffens performs with Voices of Change, a Dallas-based 20th century chamber music ensemble, and a summer chamber music festival in the Allegheny Mountains near the resort area of Hot Springs, Virginia.
