I agree with dgee on that point: sometimes I feel like I just need a break from classical. It is the majority of what I listen to, but sometimes I feel confined. I go through periods of days or weeks (not years!) in which I stick to the Beatles and Paul Simon, but the return to classical is all the better! I like the "mellowness" of jazz, also, and eventually would like to be able to improvise...
I feel sorry for people who are completely cut off from classical music, either by choice or upbringing, because their is so much to be gained from having a wide musical outlook. (I hope some of that made sense.)
